October
5th, 2002 - Unity Scrap (over $2000 raised)
Local residents and Unity Park Team members
Jan Richards and Sandy Zeitunian deserve every
bit of recognition we can offer them. Sandy
(and Jan’s husband) even took time off
work to “beat the pavement” asking
businesses to sponsor our event with either
cash donations to cover the costs, items to
include in the many give-a-ways, and event the
food for the day! All totaled, they received
cash or in-kind contributions form forty + local
businesses, which proves the community does
support the project – even if the local
newspaper coverage doesn’t.
The event included a goody bag (worth the price
of admission alone), food & beverage to
“graze” on at your leisure all day
long, pizza & salad lunch provided by Checkerboard
Pizza, chair massage service available for a
fee (with proceeds donated to the playground,
door prizes, two stores with all the supplies
you’d need for the day, and free demonstrations
of techniques throughout the day. Evie Bitondo
took so many pictures of the Unity Scrap event,
we created a
slideshow
to show you how much fun we had.
August
24th, 2002 - Bike-a-thon, from Pinckney to Gregory
& back ($2300 raised)

The Bike-a-thon was a lot of fun for those who
participated and all who did said they’d
participate in another one. Leslie Lowenstein
did an awesome job organizing the whole event.
Bicyclists checked in at the Depot and received
bandanas (courtesy of Pinckney Chrysler Dodge)
and maps of the trail denoting the various SAG
stops. Snacks (donated by McDonalds, Busch’s
& The Lakes Grille) were provided at the
Gregory SAG Stop. Most Participants took advantage
of the SAG Wagons (provided courtesy of Pinckney
Chrysler Dodge and TMZ Farm) to continue on
to the Public Square for the festivities in
the park. Lunch was provided to all participants
by The Lakes Grille and the kids were treated
to a moonwalk and face painting. All participants
in the bike decorating contest were voted in
winners by judges Richard Bennett and Greg Amburgey
and received ice cream gift certificates from
Frosty’s Icecreamery.
August
2nd & 3rd, 2002 - Busch's Ice Cream Social
($1600 raised)

The Girl Scouts & other community volunteers
that staffed the Ice Cream Social did a great
job. Busch’s donated all the materials
and space for the event and it was a huge success.
